Women's Lives, Then and Now

Women's Lives, Then and Now In-Person

Marcia Nehemiah will read from her book Crone Age and lead a discussion on Friday, October 10 from 4:00- 5:30 p.m.

When she began interviewing eight women octagenarians for her book, she focused on discovering what it means to live fully into old age. As she learned about their experiences, she also gained insight into how the women’s lives were shaped by gender barriers in their society, among other factors.

The reading and talk will focus not only on growing older, but also on how the societal influences affected women born between 1920 and 1930, and the freedoms and challenges women now face in the 21st century.

A published author and poet, Marcia has been involved in her community as a member of a writers collective and an environmental advocacy group, and was co-founder and past president of Growing Older Together, an organization assisting older adults in our community. She has been the guiding teacher of Two Rivers Zen Community since 2023.
